As homecoming approaches, each class will compete in the float competition during half time, Oct. 26. Until then, students meet and collaborate to construct their chosen theme.

To go along with the theme, Once Upon a Homecoming, the sophomore class has chosen to portray The Wizard of Oz. Check back each week to see updates on their progress as the deadline approaches.

As homecoming approaches rapidly everyone begins to dedicate more and more time to their float in hopes of winning first place. This year, as the sophomores second time building a float,Cole Nale provided the trailer and offered up his house to host the construction.

The homecoming theme this year, Once Upon A Homecoming, paved the way for the sophomore float theme of The Wizard of Oz. The sophomores are hoping that their hard work and dedication will pay off and that they will win first place.

Many students took part in the construction and making of the float last year in hopes of proving that the freshman class is one to be feared. Last year the class placed third, portraying the board game The Game of Life.

Lindsey Baker-Pauls opened up her house for the viewing of the movie for the students who had not seen The Wizard of Oz. She also uses her artistic talents for the decorations on the float.

Many students attended both float meetings, amongst them Nick Fontes puts his talents to good use in hopes of making the float better than last years.

The banner says “Thank you, Mayor, for keeping us safe.” The group behind the wave of houses decorated to look like floats during the pandemic-curtailed Mardi Gras is continuing the tradition in 2022 while the mayor weighs whether to allow parades during the upcoming Carnival season.

It’s still not known whether the city will hold parades. During a meeting on Thursday, Mayor LaToya Cantrell said the city is doing “everything we can to ensure that Carnival happens,” The Times-Picayune / The New Orleans Advocate reported. But she didn’t specifically commit to allowing parades to go forward.

She said she would be watching the Krewe of Boo parade closely to see how the Oct. 23 event the first parade in the city since the pandemic began goes off.

You just can’t keep a good city down, especially when Mardi Gras is coming.

All around New Orleans, thousands of houses are being decorated as floats because the elaborate parades normally held during the Carnival season leading to Fat Tuesday have been cancelled due to the pandemic.

The “house float” movement started almost as soon as a New Orleans spokesman announced Nov. 17 that parades were off. That morning, Megan Joy Boudreaux posted what she later called a silly Twitter joke: “We’re doing this. Turn your house into a float and throw all the beads from your attic at your neighbours walking by.”

But the more she thought about it, the more she liked it. She started a Facebook group, the Krewe of House Floats, expecting a few friends and neighbours to join. The numbers rose. Thirty-nine subgroups evolved to discuss neighborhood plans.

Ahead of Fat Tuesday on Feb. 16, here’s a look at some of the eye-popping displays.

Creative 4th Of July Parade Float Ideas

Fourth of July parades take place all across the country and signify not only our collective patriotism, but also local pride. Homemade floats abound and are as unique and individual as the spirit that carved out our country. A red, white and blue motif is clearly de rigueur, but imaginative themes and creative touches can make any float stand apart from the rest. Here are three ideas to help spark your imagination this Fourth.

Think Local

Anyone can pop a Golden Gate Bridge or Statue of Liberty onto a float and claim state pride, but consider taking your creation one step further by going granular. Recreate a local street or nearby landmark that resonates with your immediate community, and have your neighbors and local school kids join the fun as both builders and participants. If you are portraying a landmark of historical significance, use the parade as a teaching moment by passing out educational flyers. If you are highlighting instead an area of commerce, have the merchants whose stores are included offer free samples of their wares to parade-goers.

Parade Float Ideas For An Insurance Company

This summer we have to make a parade float for our county’s home insurance company. Any ideas on what we could do?Becky from Wausau, WI

My 12 year old son has an idea for you. He suggests you put a wrecked car on your float with a sign that says something like “We can fix this.”

How about a Wizard of Oz theme after all the tornado warnings this summer?

Or maybe something along the line of a wrecked car with the heading “We meet by accident”. Of course, any patriotic theme is going to go over big with the war going on.

Russia Loses Control Of Key Northeast Towns As Ukrainian Troops Advance

In fact, cost-of-living adjustments have failed to keep pace with inflation for the last two decades.
