What To Expect At Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party
The parks decorations arent the only thing that changes for Christmas at Disney World.
Snow begins falling on Main Street USA and the parks put on exclusive fireworks shows that are even bigger than normal.
Dance parties, stage shows, and special parades happen in the park. Youll find stands with free hot chocolate and cookies that pop up around the park as well.
Because the event requires a special ticket which is sold in limited numbers, there are fewer people in the park once the nightly events start.
That means shorter wait times on rides and for food, more room to breathe as you walk around, and an overall less claustrophobic experience.
Be aware, that even with fewer people in the park, it can feel more crowded than during the day.
This is mostly because the people there will be centered on the events going on, so those areas will be heavily congested.
If the events arent a huge interest, lines for rides will be incredibly short so its the perfect time to get a few extra rides in.
Disney World is also well-known for its character meet-and-greets, but the Christmas event brings some limited-time characters to the park.
Most of the characters will also be donning special outfits that guests dont see throughout the year such as Mary Poppins traveling costume, a Christmas collar for Pluto, or others with festive scarves.
What Date Does Disney Change From Halloween To Christmas
Officially Disney changes from Halloween to Christmas on November 6th, and the first Disney after hours event will typically follow one or two days after. Its important to note that this is the official date at the Magic Kingdom park, and the rest of Walt Disney World will decorate for Christmas in the following weeks.
Best Time To Visit Walt Disney World Resort During The Holidays
Before we dive into the merriment, let’s start with perhaps the most important topic: The best time to visit during Christmas at Disney World. Many people plan their visits to Disney World at Christmas years in advance. The 2020 and 2021 seasons were, ahem, special, to put it mildly, and while many people who had already planned trips had decided “not this year,” many are now thinking “let’s go to Disney World!” We highly recommend you start thinking about purchasing tickets and reserving Disney Park Pass reservations as soon as you’re able when it comes to the holiday season! Park Pass reservations are here to stay, so you will need to pick which park you’ll visit each day of your trip ahead of time.
In general, we think any time you can visit Disney World is a good time to visit Disney World. We’re always excited when we’ve got our bags packed and are headed to the Most Magical Place on Earth. However, there are better times to visit than others during the holiday season. The busiest days of the year hoppen around Disney World holidays. In terms of crowds, here are the busiest days of the season:
- The week of Thanksgiving, including Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after Thanksgiving
- The week of Christmas, including Christmas Day
- The week of New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day

Disney World Christmas Guide 202: Best Decorations Activities And Tips For Christmas Visits
Disney World is fabulous all year, but there is something extra magical when visiting during Disney World Christmas season. The wide variety of Disney World Christmas decorations, activities, and entertainment make this our favorite time of year. Use our complete 2022 Disney World Christmas guide to understand what is available and plan your own special holiday experience.
When Does Christmas At Walt Disney World Start
In 2022, Disney has announced that the spirit of the season begins November 11. Thats the date that you should expect most, if not all, decorations to be up, merchandise to be available, and most of the holiday offerings in this post to debut. However, there are a few things to keep in mind .
First, Epcots International Festival of the Holidays is scheduled to run November 25 through December 30. Until November 19, Epcot will host the Food and Wine Festival, and on the 20th through 24th there will be no festival.
Second, Magic Kingdoms primary holiday offering in 2022 is Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party. That will be held on select nights beginning November 8. That means its almost certain that all holiday decorations at Magic Kingdom will be up by November 8. The first decorations typically go up overnight between October 31 and November 1.
Third, hotels more or less move at their own pace. I hope the November 12, date means theyll be fully decorated by then, but dont be surprised if some offerings, like the gingerbread features at select hotels, arent complete by then.
People are often surprised to find out that there are datesearly December, specificallyduring Disneys Christmas season that are some of the cheapest dates of the year to visit. We love those dates because youre getting the best version of Disney World at one of the best prices.

How Long Do Christmas Decorations Stay Up At Walt Disney World
Cant make it to Disney World before New Years Day? If youre thinking, Is Disney still decorated for Christmas in January?, youll be happy to hear that you can be walking in a winter wonderland up until around the first week of January.

Christmas At Disneys Magic Kingdom
If you didnt think it was possible for the most magical place on the planet, the Magic Kingdom, to get any more magical, then check it out during the holidays! The Magic Kingdom Christmas decorations are a sight to behold!
Starting with Main Street U.S.A. decked out like Christmas Town with all its wreaths, lights and garland, you will move down the street toward the most beautiful Cinderella Castle you have every witnessed.
As your eyes smile with delight at the sights, your other senses will also be entertained with fun music of the season and smells that can only be associated with Christmas.
Christmas At Magic Kingdom
Magic Kingdom is home to Walt Disney World featured Christmas event Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party. This ticketed event is held on select evenings throughout November and December. It features unique entertainment , snacks , and character sightings. The first after hours event of 2022 is on November 8 and the last party is December 22.
Magic Kingdom is also decorated heavily for Christmas beginning in early November. Most decorations go up the first week of November, with many typically debuting November 1. Through that same link, youll find information on Magic Kingdoms holiday merchandise, snack, and show offerings.
Magic Kingdom historically offers some unique holiday experiences. First, Jungle Cruise is usually transformed to the holiday-themed Jingle Cruise, and we dont expect the recent updates to the ride to impact that.
Past years included the nightly show A Frozen Holiday Wish, which is also when the castle is lit up with icicles for the evening. Unfortunately, with the castle being reimagined for the 50th Anniversary celebrations those lights and the Frozen show were dropped in 2021 and will presumably not be a part of the 2022 celebration.
In the past, the Trolley Show and Mickeys Royal Friendship Faire got holiday touches beginning in early November.

Disneys Animal Kingdom Lodge
I must admit my bias Disneyâs Animal Kingdom Lodge is my favorite Disney resort, hands down. This one-of-a-kind resort is home to beautiful African animals as well as a massive collection of African art and artifacts.
Disneyâs Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disneyâs Wilderness Lodge were designed by the same architect. So they both have jaw-dropping lobbies. Jambo House is the main building of Animal Kingdom Lodge and has an incredible, warmly lit Christmas tree. You can sometimes find a gingerbread or chocolate village here, near the BOMA Flavors of Africa restaurant. There are two fire pits here too, one indoors and one outdoors. Either one is perfect for snuggling with your sweetheart.
While youâre here you can also walk over, or take a complimentary van, to Kidani Village. This is the second building at the resort, built a few years after Jambo House.
My Ideal Day For You At California Adventure
California Adventure includes a simpler plan that what youll find at Disneyland.
As with any day, arrive an hour prior to park opening and follow one of my strategies in this post.
This will allow you to complete ALL attractions by early afternoon. Once youre finished, return to your hotel room to rest, nap, swim, etc. Then, head back to DCA early evening to see the Christmas tree lighting, enjoy the Festival of Holidays, visit Santa Claus, repeat favorite attractions, and to see more holiday entertainment.
Start your afternoon entertainment line up with Mickeys Happy Holidays that starts around 4:00pm. Catch this at Carthay Circle. Mickeys Happy Holidays is the live entertainment that floats through the park with the Holiday Toy Drummers leading the way. Its so much fun to see. The Christmas Tree lighting is at 5:00pm each day. No need to arrive early for this. Walk up just a few minutes prior and make sure you have a view of the tree. Its located at the end of Buena Vista Street, in front of Elias & Company.
After the tree lighting, head to Grizzly Peak to see Santa at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail. I much prefer my kids see Santa here rather than Disneyland, as the set up is entirely magical. Santa is at DCA from 9:00am to 6:45pm. Go here after the tree lighting so you dont risk missing him. I share more on Santa here.
I also recommend you make time for the Feliz Navidad Street Party.

Disney Christmas Decorating 2022 Dates
This year we are anticipating November 3rd and 4th being the heaviest decorating days with the official opening day of the holiday season being November 12th. These dates are subject to change as we get closer to the Christmas season.
The one park that is left out of the early decorating action is Epcot. The Disney cast members wait until after the Epcot Food and Wine Festival is complete before the decorations are fully in view.
Lets look a bit more in-depth at when the Disney Christmas decorations go up as well as some specific holiday celebrations found in the parks, resorts, restaurants and shopping district found around the Walt Disney World Resort property.

Disney Park Christmas Decorations 2022
Walt Disney World truly transports you to a Winter Wonderland for Disney at Christmas. Each park gets a wintery, magical makeover with twinkling lights, beautiful bows and Christmas trees! Its during this time of year when you can see the famous Magic Kingdom Christmas tree! Walt Disney World has 29 large custom trees that are up to 70 feet tall, 596 smaller trees, and a Christmas tree trail at Disney Springs. Disney World holiday decorations truly make the holiday season special.
When Does Disney Put Up Christmas Decorations
Disney puts up Christmas decorations a lot earlier than pretty much anyone else. In the world of Disney, Christmas begins as soon as Halloween ends. And I mean as soon as it ends.
Once the final Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party of the year wraps up, the Christmas decorating begins.
Many people deliberately schedule their trips to span this time frame so they get a dose of Halloween and Christmas all in one trip.
This video below really highlights what I mean. They quite literally change the decorations overnight.
In reality, it takes a few weeks to get the decorations up in their entirety, but you can get a pretty good Christmas vibe on November 1.
At the end of the Christmas season, the decorations usually come down around the second week of January.

If you plan to be at Disney World between November 8 and December 22, 2022, you really should read up on Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party.
It just might be the perfect cherry on top of your Disney World Christmas sundae.
