How Did Christmas Trees Start
Long before the advent of Christianity, plants and trees that remained green all year had a special meaning for people in the winter. Just as people today decorate their homes during the festive season with pine, spruce, and fir trees, ancient peoples hung evergreen boughs over their doors and windows. In many countries it was believed that evergreens would keep away witches, ghosts, evil spirits, and illness.
Did you know? Christmas trees are grown in all 50 states including Hawaii and Alaska.
In the Northern hemisphere, the shortest day and longest night of the year falls on December 21 or December 22 and is called the winter solstice. Many ancient people believed that the sun was a god and that winter came every year because the sun god had become sick and weak. They celebrated the solstice because it meant that at last the sun god would begin to get well. Evergreen boughs reminded them of all the green plants that would grow again when the sun god was strong and summer would return.
The ancient Egyptians worshipped a god called Ra, who had the head of a hawk and wore the sun as a blazing disk in his crown. At the solstice, when Ra began to recover from his illness, the Egyptians filled their homes with green palm rushes, which symbolized for them the triumph of life over death.

Should You Decorate For Christmas Before Or After Thanksgiving
Whether you should decorate for Christmas before or after Thanksgiving is completely up to your personal preference, where you live, and how busy you are.
If you want your Christmas decorations up before Thanksgiving, then put them up. You should also consider where you live- will it be too cold after Thanksgiving to put your decorations up? You dont want to risk frostbite.
Also, look at your holiday schedule. Do you have a lot of family or work parties to attend? It might be easier to get your decorating out of the way before the celebrations roll around.
Standard Items To Keep For All Seasons
If you enjoy decorating for the holidays, prepare your home ahead of time for that decor by choosing some items that you can keep out for the entire year. Take your holiday decorating schedule and plans into consideration as you look at furniture and other items. For example:
- Select neutral-colored furniture, including items in cream or gray, to help you coordinate with the throw pillows and blankets you may want to add to your holiday decor.
- Use wood and wicker, which are always in season and will look great inside or outside your home regardless of the time of year.
- Consider your holiday decorating plans when positioning furniture and other items throughout your home, since you’ll want to leave room for the stunning decor you love.

A Few Weeks Of Holiday Decorations Isnt Enough
It was never enough time to enjoy the holiday cheer and I wanted more. I vowed one day, standing in the middle of our naked living room seeing nothing but dust in the air and a few brown needles, I would celebrate and for Christmas and spread the damn festivities out for a longer period of time when I was older.
And I have done that. In fact, decorating for Christmas whenever I want is one of my favorite parts of being an adult.
I started by putting my tree up the day after Thanksgiving and decorating my first apartment with pine bows and berries Id find on the side of the road. I stocked up on Christmas lights and would feel the magic ooze out of my apartment under the glow of the lights.
Id wake up every morning before work and plug them in before I could even see straight. There was something about my Christmas decorations that made getting up and going to work easier.
I did this until my first son was born despite my husbands grunting about how it was too early for such nonsense and could I please turn off the damn Christmas music?
But it wasnt enough. I wanted more time wrapped in nostalgia, twinkle lights, and cinnamon scented candles. So, I started pulling our my sparkly ornaments, faux fur throws and pillows the weekend before Thanksgiving.
And it feels just right.

Is October Too Early To Decorate For Christmas
Depending on where you live and how celebrated Halloween is, October may or may not be too early to decorate for Christmas.
In October, Halloween is the dominating holiday and die-hard fans do not want to be overtaken by Christmas. However, if you live in an area far from trick-or-treaters and you notice your neighbors rarely get into the Halloween spirit, then you may be obliged to start decorating for Christmas earlier than most. Aim for October 15th at the earliest.
Are There Any Benefits To Putting Your Tree Up Earlier
“There are definitely benefits to putting up your Christmas tree early”, shares interior influencer Ness Hancock . “Research has found that it can improve your mood, and a study in the Journal of Environmental Psychology concluded that those who decorate the outside of their house come across as more friendly.”
This year has been immensely stressful for many, and so Ness explains that surrounding yourself with small things that bring you joy, like a Christmas tree and decorations, could really boost your mental health.
“With the year weve had, everyone could do with a bit of happiness. Its something positive and joyful to look forward to. Christmas always provides a reason for celebration and a relaxing welcomed break, so its understandable that people are looking forward to and plan for it earlier than ever this year,” she explains.
But what about putting your tree up super earlysay the end of November? “Decorating your home early can create that neurological shift, a spike in the feel-good hormone dopamine which can produce happiness. If there was ever a year to make an exception to decorate early, this could be it. Its a crazy year. If putting up your Christmas tree early will bring you a little extra joy, why not,” she adds.

When Will Disney World Decorate For Christmas 2021
When it comes to the holidays at Walt Disney World, there are three questions we receive more than any others: When will Christmas decorations go up in the parks & resorts?Thats what well answer in this post.
Just in case youre curious, the other most common question is: How do you get tickets to see the ABC Christmas Day Parade live in person at Walt Disney World? Rounding out the top three, when are Christmas decorations taken down?
With Christmas quickly approaching and Walt Disney World continuing to announce new details for the holiday season, were receiving this question more. This is likely because Christmas season isnt starting until November 12, 2021one week later than normal. Suffice to say, Christmas 2021 at Walt Disney World is going to look a little different, including the decorations.
Before we get to the good news, lets start with the bad news. We really dont know what the decorations will entail this year. As with last year, Christmas is likely to be scaled back at Walt Disney World this year.
However, its for a very different reason. Last year, travel had plummeted and a number of modifications for health and safety were made. This year, the changes are due to Walt Disney Worlds 50th Anniversary, which overshadows both Halloween and Christmas in the process. Consequently, things will be a bit different for Christmas 2021.
First, we know that there will be no Cinderella Castle Dream Lights, which is a big blow.
