What Is The Cheapest Way To Do A Kitchen
The cheapest way to update your kitchen is to make use of things you already have at home, such as left over paint or wood. Painting cupboard doors can give your kitchen a whole new look in an afternoon and costs nothing if you still have paint lying around from a previous update. Adding wood panelling to walls is another great way to update a kitchen and again, if you already have the wood, you’re all set to complete the work without spending a penny
If you’re looking to completely gut the kitchen you have and start again, it’s worth looking for second-hand offerings on sites such as Gumtree or Freecyle
Often people are keen to get rid of their old kitchens in a hurry, so you have a good chance at grabbing budget kitchen ideas, even if you do have to travel a little further to secure it.
Build Your Own Shelving
While storage is always crucial in a small kitchen, open shelving can make it feel bigger and less closed in plus it doesnt cost much if you do it yourself. All you need is some wood, shelf brackets, and nails or wall anchors. Make sure theres around 15 to 20 inches of space from your countertop to the bottom of your lowest shelf. See how the blogger behind Lemon Thistle created kitchen shelves for less than $20 each.

Improve The Light In The Kitchen
Good quality of light is highly desired in the kitchen because the food not only has to taste good, but it has to look good as well. With improper light, you cant achieve that, and when it is dark all the time, youd not even know what youve cooked and mistakes would become routine. Well, it is about time you changed that because light not only makes your kitchen shine, but it is the cheapest way to remodel your kitchen. The latest LED lights not only provides better quality of light but consumes lower energy as well. So, its three birds with one stone.
Or Opt For Invisible Hardware

When you lean up against the counter, you dont want to feel a handle poking into your side. You also want a clean surface where you really see the materiality of the surface. Weve worked a lot with Dada and have been generally seeing less hardware and more integrated pulls or touch-to-open cabinetry. It makes working much more efficient, said designer Stephanie Goto.

Upcycle An Old Window Frame
Need a spot in the kitchen to keep the whole family in check? Create a noticeboard by fixing cork tiles onto the back of an old frame using a glue gun or strong tape. Screw hooks into the bottom edge for mini buckets and fix to the wall with picture hooks. Stencil numbers in the corners with black paint, then use to pin postcards and family reminders up.
However, to ensure your family does use it you need to think bout how it’s going to be used when you create it. ‘I would suggest starting off with a cork noticeboard and lots of push pins,’ says Aisha from Hobbycraft.
‘This way the information you want to display can be added and moved around as you like as you discover what works best for you. Once youve settled into a rhythm then start looking at ways to further enhance your notice board.’

This is a great tip if you rent your property and cannot make more permanent changes. Alternatively, you could get that roller out again and tackle your tiles with tile paint. Depending on just how small your budget is, you might decide to go the whole hog and completely replace your existing tiles. A Breakdown Of What We Splurged On
We ended up splurging on our kitchen sink. I am using air quotes here because we chose the ikea farmhouse sink and in Canada this sink runs for around $400 which is a steal when it comes to a farmhouse sink. We could have gone with a stainless steel sink but I have always wanted a farmhouse sink so thats where we decided to splurge a little.
We also ended up spending around $400 on our tile backsplash, grout and trim for behind our stove. Again we could have saved by using something cheaper like subway tile but our kitchen is small and I figured this was a great chance to try a fun tile that cost $9 each because of the small surface we would need to cover.
Add Life And Functionality
You can use items that would normally go to waste, such as pots, bottles, boards, and other kitchen items to decorate a kitchen on a budget. In addition to recycling and not wasting material, you can still make your kitchen much more organized and creative. Bottles of wine or juice glass can become beautiful flower vases. Just remove the labels and choose the most different bottles to make a set in a special corner of the table.
