Round 42 Bamboo Wall Art

POTTERY BARNBUY

Leave it to bougie folks to appropriate the most random object and call it art. At least give us equal treatment and reproduce one of the country’s many artifacts like others have previously done. No, we’re kidding. Don’t do that.

This isn’t the first instance of a bilao selling for an exorbitant price. The common household item is currently selling for $38 on Etsy. Here’s how sellers describe it: “Round Rattan Tray Boho Chic Wicker Tray Woven Bamboo Bohemian Wall Hanging Rustic Decor.” Quite a mouthful.

Pottery Barn takes the cake, though. Seriously, P15,000 would quite literally buy you hundreds of bilaos filled with different kinds of local delicacies.

Pottery Barn Inspired Love Wall Art Plaque

So, as I was browsing through the pages of the new Pottery Barn catalogue, I spied with my little eye, a beautiful piece of love wall art!

Pure, sweet, and simple lovliness!

However, it is quite large and wellpricey.

Soooooff to Hobby Lobby I went! Strolling through the home accent clearance section with my 9 year old son, I knew I had a very limited amount of time. Who knew within 2 minutes I would spy this little baby

Perfect size for over my cook top! The wooden letters were also a Hobby Lobby buy on the same trip. Needless to say, someone knew my sweet little guy was only going to last so long, because it was literally a 10 minute trip. Sweet!

Bonustake a look at the price tag

At first I was going to remove the tray handles, but decided to leave them, they made it a little different and able to actually be used as a tray.

The first step was to simply glue the wooden letters on the tray

Next, I took the handles off and spray painted the whole tray and letters with my faveRustoleum Heirloom White! I Love that it is a pure creamy white! I waited for it to dry, put the handles back on and .

YesI promise I took that picture in January!

I added a simple jute ribbon bow and thats it!

I am a very neutral person by nature, but tend to LOVE a pop of color, so the tone on tone is a bit of a stretch for me! Something in me just wants to paint it red!

So sweet, simple, and easy! And for more Valentines Day Ideas, you have got to see our Valentine Mason Jar Craft

Here’s How You Do It:

  • Trim up your mat using scissors. The scrolls on the mat were a little wonky in some places, so I trimmed as much of the uncut rubber as I could.
  • Next, get your paint on! My first attempt involved a can of white spray paint. Giant fail. I tried three coats of white spray paint and it wasn’t covering very well so I went the chalk paint route.

I highly recommend the chalk paint. This will also make it easier if you decide you want to distress your wall art at all to let a little bit of the black through to give it an added dimension.

  • Nest, let it dry. Wait longer than you thinkthen wait some more. I got impatient at this point and that is why I now have smudged white paint on my beige wall.
  • Hang it up. I simply hammered two little nails into the wall and hung my door mat wall art up. Not bad for less than $20, huh?

Pottery Barn Knock Off Wall Art

Pottery Barn is, by far, my favorite home store. The new summer catalog arrived yesterday and they had some amazing wall art in it. That led me to checking out some wall decor on the website. While there, I noticed some that would be such an easy DIY project.

The cost of these Pottery Barn prints is $159 for one, or $929 for 6. Crazy-expensive. Im thinking these can be easily re-created with some fabric samples and frames. Calico Corners offers many of their fabric samples in larger sizes. Average size samples are usually around 5.5 squared. The larger versions from Calico are 27 X 18. I prefer the larger samples because its hard to get a good sense of how it will look in the room from the small size. Its like trying to pick a paint color from the cardboard square samples, you really need the sample pot to put a larger swatch on the wall. I took a quick shot to demonstrate the sizes side by side.

The yellow fabric is Jo Jo Slub in corn yellow, and the blue Ikat is called Khandar, both from Calico. The small swatch is from Onlinefabricstore.net and is called Jo Jo Aquarius. I actually ordered the yellow sample just for framing. I used it in my daughters room. I will be sharing more pictures of this room soon.

I put together a grouping of fabrics from Calico Corners that I thought would work well together to recreate the Pottery Barn gallery.

The first is the Pinnacle Gallery Frame in black, it comes in a 20 X 16 size, cost $14.97 each.

I started by stopping by Lowes and finding this awesome retro paneling. They only let you buy it in one VERY large sheet. But I had them cut it down for me at the store and walked away with 5 different pieces. For this project I cut the two boards 2 x 4 and 2 x 3. I went to my local Walmart and bought all the colors I thought I might need .

For this step I simply used a small roller brush and extra ceiling paint that was left behind from our builder. You could just as easily use spray paint if you prefer.

Start with a pencil and have an eraser handy. The surface is actually quite forgivingso dont worry about making mistakes. I also just pulled up the image from Lily Pad Cottage to have a reference of what the lettering looked like and did my best to make it look similar.

UPDATE: I have recently been introduced to www.katiedaisy.com and learned that this artwork was made by her and sold to Pottery Barn. I am just in love with her etsy site and am planning to buy some of her art to go in the babys adventurer nursery. Loving THIS and THIS. She is obviously a very talented artist and her prices are very affordable. I appreciate her inspiration and truly enjoyed the process of picking up a brush and trying to create something myself, she is truly inspiring.

Pottery Barn’s P15000 Bilao Wall Decor Has The Internet Confused

It’s happened. It’s actually happened. Pottery Barn, the go-to for all things modern and rustic, went too far with the home decor. Get this: The home furnishing brand is selling bamboo wall art that you’ll probably recognize as a bilao. That’s not even the craziest part of it all… the P15,000 price tag attached to it is.

Naturally, the internet is going nuts over the P15,000 bilao because for that amount it should really come with someone that makes pancit or kakanin 24/7. Honestly, we’re equally as confused as the rest of the internet. At the same time, however, we’re bummed that we didn’t think to do it first. What’s next? The Philippines’ beloved tabo hanging on the wall like decorative plates? Don’t get any ideas, Pottery Barn.

“Round out your accent wall with this impressive woven art piece made from bamboo,” says Pottery Barn. “Reminiscent of open-air market selling baskets, with a slightly concave shape and shallow rim, it adds warmth, texture and eclectic style wherever it’s hung.”
