If you follow me on you saw that we put up our Christmas tree in our sunroom on Halloween night. Yes, I know Im crazy, but I explained why I did it. I came home from a long night of work tonight & sat under the glow of the Christmas tree & started looking through my magazines that have piled up. On top of the stack was my Pottery Barn catalog & I started feeling inspired especially by all their pops of red they use & I cant wait to add some of that in our farmhouse. I own a few of these items myself & of course I have that famous woody car pillow with the tree on top that matches our wagoneer. From the comments and reactions to my Christmas tree already being up, I know a lot of you are excited to decorate for Christmas as well so I wanted to share some of my favorite Pottery Barn Christmas items with you guys today on the blog in hopes that it leaves you inspired like it did me. Pottery Barn Inspired Diy Christmas Snowflake
When I saw Pottery Barn’s Christmas wall decor, I was captivated by their snowflake wall art made of driftwood. I instantly wondered if I could replicate the look and I knew exactly who Id give it to once finished . I had to create a video to show some of the techniques described below sometimes its easier to show than explain. Gather driftwood
Gather driftwood of similar thickness. Find the longest pieces to make up the three main points.
Determine longest lengths
I found that I could create 17 inch points for the snowflake. Measure, mark, and cut.
Cut angles at 22.5 degrees
Begin to line up the three main points of the snowflake. Make sure the lengths are the same even if you have to use a few pieces of driftwood to do so.
Cut 2″ long inner points
Cut one end of the inner points at 22.5 degrees, and the intersecting end at 45 degrees. My driftwood pieces are about 2 inches long.
Mitre box hand saw
I used this mitre box to help me line up the correct angles. Be sure to wear a glove – after over 70 cuts you’ll be feeling it.
Cut outer points
The outer points are also 2 inches long with the intersecting end cut at a 45 degree angle and the other end is a flat cut.

Six Draw The Barn Star
Use a straight edge to draw the barn star with a pencil. Then use painters tape to tape off the star shape.
After the taping is finished, seal the tape edges with 1 coat of the white paint. Keep it nice and smooth so that your paint job doesnt look lumpy or rough.
Watch the DIY Video Above to see exactly how to draw the Barn Star. Its much easier to explain on video than in writing. But, its easy to do. No worries.

Seven Paint The Red Sections
Once that dries, paint the frame and all of the back outside of the barn star with the red chalk paint. Red always takes 3 or 4 coats to get a nice, even color. Let that dry completely between coats.
When the red chalk paint is even and dries, you can slowly and carefully peel the tape off.
Then carefully paint over the pencil marks with white chalk paint. Touch up any imperfections with a foam brush. Theyre perfect for painting straight lines.

Sometimes when I am having trouble coming up with a project, I visit my favorite store catalogs or websites for inspiration. This project is inspired by a Christmas Wall Art piece from Pottery Barn that cost $99 on the website. I got the print for $1.75 at Office Depot by downloading it to my flash drive and taking it to my local store. Total, my version was under $20!

Eight Attach The X Pieces
Now, its time to add that X across the front.
Normally, I would have added this before doing any painting. But this Barn Star Quilt shape is a little complicated. So, I decided it would be easier to draw the barn star without the X pieces attached.
Glue the X into place, then flip over the Wooden DIY Barn Star Quilt to brad nail the X onto the frame.
