Pick A Monitor Designed For Small Home Offices
Having the space for a dedicated home office isn’t a choice we can all make but that doesn’t mean you still won’t need to work from home occasionally, find space for a passion project or need a specific spot for the kids to sit down and do their homework. So, what to do if you’re limited on space, and particularly desk space? The clever, space-saving Space Monitor could be the answer.
What makes it so special? Put simply, it’s a super slimline screen that can be placed, flush, against a wall, as well as adjusted to a variety of other angles, depending on what suits you.
No One Argues With A View
If youre lucky enough to have a big window with a view, dont take that for granted. Any great officemasculine or otherwiseuses the view to its fullest potential. Furthermore, if the view is specific then you should design your office accordingly. For example, cityscapes go well with modern or minimalist home offices, while outdoor landscapes might call for a more rustic vibe. Use the view to your advantage and make it part of the space.

Modern Home Office In The Living Room
Working from home has many advantages. First of all, you dont have to commute to work, which means you can save time – even two hours a day, depending on the case. Everything is perfect until you have to create a home office design in your apartment, where there is no room for it. What to do, in such a case? The simplest ideas are often the best. You can organize a modern home office in the living room. Sometimes you need just a few changes to discover new functions of the interior.
If you just need a laptop, a chair and an electrical socket for your work – the solution to your problem is easier than you think. Just purchase a new desk or a console table. It will work as a desk for a few hours, and afterwards you can put a vase with flowers on it. Thanks to this, your home office design is basically invisible.
Another, quite an interesting solution involves hiding the home office in a closet. In such a case, you only need to put a little table and a chair inside. Unfortunately, although it is a very aesthetic solution, it also has some disadvantages. The biggest one is the fact that it takes up a lot of space you could use for storage. If your apartment is really small, you will notice it quickly. For this reason, it is not a very popular home office design – despite its creativity.
Keep It Simple With An All White Scheme

You just cant go wrong with clean neutral shades in a modern home office, as Helen says Whites and off whites allow you to begin each day with a clean slate and a clear mind, but it also affords you the ability to switch out little details as your taste shift, providing a brand-new space with little effort each and every time. Highlighting focal areas such as bookcases or woodwork in a complementary color draws the eye, adding interest.
So its a versatile choice that you can easily switch up when you are feeling like a change, which when you spend every day sat in the same spot could be pretty often. Break up the walls of white with prints and add some personality with decor on your desk so the space doesnt feel too clinical.

Darker shades can work wonders in a home office, creating cozy, inviting spaces. Livingetcs editor Pip McCormac says For a small office, go with a rich, dark color on the walls – it may seem counterintuitive but a wonderful deep shade like a purple will bring the room alive, making it seem like a space to be creative. Then cover the wall with art and photos in a gallery wall style, which gives the eye something to be inspired by every time you take a screen break.

People often believe that black walls can make a small room appear smaller, but it can be the opposite when done correctly. Dark colors can create a visual backdrop for the other elements, allowing the furniture pieces to stand out. Picking only a few other materials to contrast gives focus without disorder.
What Furniture Do I Need For A Contemporary Home Office
Furniture pieces should make a bold statement but at the same time be simple and uncluttered, without curves or decoration. Smooth, clean, geometric shapes are essential. Upholstered furniture is often done in black, white, or other neutral tones, using the natural fibers found in wool, cotton, linen, silk, jute to add textural appeal. Pillows in clean geometric shapes add a shot of color and texture. You may use a basic background and shout out with your favorite color on a furniture piece that stands out. Go basic, bare, bold, and structural, skip all things small and cute.

Bounce Light Around With Mirrors
Home offices are often the smallest rooms in the house, and they can often be light-starved too, but you can counteract the darkness and make the space feel more open with the oldest interior design trick there is mirrors.
When it comes to decorating your home office, there are lots of clever tips and tricks. I have a thing for mirrors, especially those with barely-there brass frames. Theyre so simple but are super versatile and can make the space look much bigger. Mirrors generally are great for smaller spaces as theyll bounce the light around. Positioning a mirror opposite natural light will instantly create the illusions of a much larger space. says Charlie Marshall, Founder of Loaf.
Moody + Modern Office Design
Traditional and industrial elements combine in this moody modern home office. The dark color palette is a bold movebut perhaps its just the intensity you need to get a lot of work done! We love the look of monochromatic greys with metallic touches.
This modern office features different zones, which we really love for getting the most function out of the square footage. Theres the formal study area, with a large desk and modern office chair for when you need to focus or log onto a video call. But theres also the sofa for when youre casually working and want to put your feet up. And the bench in front of the window creates a nice makeshift seat for reading or taking calls. The bookcases help frame the window zone, and add storage to display decorative objects.

File Cabinets And Storage Ideas For Modern Home Offices

Storage might be at a premium if your modern home office is small. Keep file cabinets tucked away under your desk or hidden inside a credenza or closet. If you have deep built-in shelves, you can install file cabinet drawers in place of some of the lower shelves.
A basket on the floor can hold blueprints or other large paper documents and look attractive at the same time. Get double duty out of an ottoman or bench by choosing one with a lid that lifts off for hidden storage inside. While a lack of clutter is necessary in modern design, you can use a simple box or set of bins on your desk to hold papers or office supplies.

Home Office Design Details
I plan to keep some my home office furniture, updating them with some creative DIY ideas. Im keeping the two gold & white home office desks. Its simple, clean and versatile with different design styles. I will replace the current chairs in our home office with new office chairs.
I love these desk chairs I have selected but I might change them because we need the chairs to be suitable for long work hours. It is so important to think about both how home office furniture will be utilized in your space and the perfect style.
Recently I have been falling in love with woven home decor and furniture pieces. I plan on getting a woven bench and placing it by an empty wall for additional seating when we have visitors. The woven bench top will add texture and warmth to the home office.
The woven bench will be styled with pillows and throws for comfort. It will also serve as storage to place items like our work bags.
The light fixture will also remain the same. I bought them a while back and got them installed. Its simple yet perfect for the ceiling and the height of the room.
Ive selected a rug that has both light and dark shades to complement the natural light and dark colored cabinets in the space. The size will be 8ftx10ft to take up a lot of the floor space.
Hence a way to convince my husband that he will still get the feel of a carpeted room when hardwood floors are installedhaha! Its all about compromise, am I right?!
Until next time!
