How To Make A Cheap Awesome Diy Curtain Rod
Lets talk Curtain Rods. More specifically, lets talk about how to make a DIY curtain rod.
Before I begin, thank you so much for being so kind about my new curtains in the dining room! I am taken aback daily by how many genuinely nice people there are in this blogging community. Thank you for loving the curtains along with me, and also thank you for just being plain ol nice.
Now, shall we get down to business?
I should dedicate an entire post just to curtain rods, because after this experience, I think I know every single option of inexpensive curtain rod options in the greater Austin area. That post is for another day though. Let me just say that the cheapest options I found were Wal-Mart and IKEA. But my DIY curtain rod version is significantly cheaper than both of those.
How to make a DIY Curtain Rod:
I headed to our local hardware store on a mission to find a practical inexpensive solution to my curtain rod dilemma. Part of my problem is that I needed a VERY LONG curtain rod 113 inches to be exact. You cant exactly buy rods that are almost 10 feet long at Wal-Mart. Trust me, I tried.
At our local hardware store I found a variety of objects that could work, but in the end the heavens parted and I stumbled on Electrical Conduit.
Bless the person that invented this light weight, sturdy, and extremely inexpensive product!
It was exactly what I was looking for 10 feet long, light weight, metal, and the best part, only TWO DOLLARS.

DIY movement is well alive and kicking. If you think about it we are in the country of people who really like to roll up their sleeves and get busy. We are the type of people who will build our own anything. If theres anything that you can say about our country is that we are a nation of doers and creators. That doesnt matter if were working on the farm or if were simply doing interior design because we will put our unique stamp on everything that we touch.
When it comes to a different bedroom decor ideas a do-it-yourself approach is always great. Taking the DIY approach is so great because it puts your personal stamp on your living space. You put your soul and your life into what you create and that is what makes your home so special. It is the difference between a house and a home. There are so many different things that a person can do and create on their own, the only thing that is ever going to limit you is your creativity. So the biggest advice that we can give you is to think freely, create a freely and try everything.
A Pretty Paneled Headboard Wall
Hello all!
Sorry this is a day late, but I think it will be worth it! Yesterday was a cold and dreary day, and I was just not loving the light for my photos. Is it too much to ask for a sliver of sunlight? Plus, my son has the flu, so I was a bit scattered anyway!
But things are looking brighter in my daughter Kates, bedroom! I have to admit, since weve moved, I havent done a whole lot to the kids rooms, aside from painting them. But one thing that has been bugging me for awhile now, is that my daughters bed just looks unfinished. She has adorable bedding , but I havent found a headboard that I really like.
But along came this beautiful inspiration . Ever since I laid eyes on it I have had this paneled wall image in the back of my mind
Why not give this a shot, right? You dont necessarily need the headboard AND the paneled wall to make a statement. I find the paneled wall alone really striking!
First things first. I needed to rearrange her bedroom. There arent a whole lot of options, and the original setup just wasnt really working.
So, here are some pictures of her room before we got to work. I should say that part of what triggered this paneled headboard was that Kate wanted to organize her room. Who am I to stand in the way of progress? .
This is the view from her bedroom door . You can see that some items have made their way up from the basement:
Again, a view from her bedroom door, slightly to the right. Lots of doors to deal with in this space.

Create A Cozy Den Like Space

If your small basement has not been blessed with windows, which we know is super common, your best bet is to embrace the darkness and the smaller proportions. Turn your space into a really cozy, go on let’s just say it, grown-up den.
This space designed by Interior Fox , might be dark, small, and have low ceilings but you don’t notice that. All we see here is a really pretty inviting space that would be perfect for watching a film with a couple of G& Ts on the weekend.
‘Given the same consideration as other rooms, the basement can become just as stylish and functional as a main-floor living space. Start by considering how much natural light the room has this will determine how much electrical lighting is required. Spotlights are always a great place to start: they are low profile and, paired with a dimmer, will allow for full control depending on the time of day or activity. Layer with wall lights, floor and table lamps to really help to set the tone.’ explains Jen & Mar from Interior Fox .
‘For smaller spaces with low ceilings, try to keep the furniture low to the ground and not too bulky to maximize the feeling of space. This will make the room appear larger and prevent it from feeling overcrowded.’

Divide Up Your Space With Sliding Doors
How gorgeous is this basement space by Katie Gelsheimer ? The small bedroom area is actually windowless, but it feels far from gloomy because it’s so beautifully lit and decorated. Those sliding doors are such a feature of the space and they allow for all the natural light from the kitchen area to flow through and keep the open plan feel but can be closed when privacy is needed.

The first part of this make-over were my initial attempts at making the Concrete Mushrooms which made very attractive pieces scattered in the lawn.
Frankly, when I begin any art or craft or diy project, I dont have a clear picture of what the outcome look would be, but when the finished look is close to good, taking all those pictures and making notes etc, of when it was being processed, becomes so worth the while.

Sometimes, it’s best just to except a small basement really is best used as some amazing extra storage space. What Can You Do With A Small Basement

You can do so much with a small basement!
If you are looking for the best ways to add value to your home, turning your basement into a second living space or a guest bedroom, complete with a small bathroom would be the best way to go. However, if you are just after a space to add a home office, a gym, or even a home cinema, basements are the perfect place to do so.
Of course, we can’t ignore the fact that basements make for amazing storage spaces too. Just make sure if you do use your space for storage you don’t allow for it to come a dumping ground. Make sure everything is kept accessible and organized to boxes, bags, drawers etc. Keep it a space you don’t dread having to go down to!

Basement Decorating Ideas And Projects
What will your basement become? As someone who has finished and decorated many different bathrooms, they have all took on a life of their own. More than anything the design of the basement will tell you what it can and should become. As you think of different ideas that you will love to implement in your basement, take a look at the space that you have and determine what is best for it. This might actually be a little bit different than what you want. We dont say this to put limitations on you but as a form of best practices.
When it comes to decorating basements the first thing you need to be sure of is to make it into a home. It needs the same type of installation, climate control, and needs to be safe and secure, and you simply want to remove that basement feeling from it and you all know what that means. You want to actually turn it into a livable part of the home and not just that scary place underneath the house. It needs to become a place that you will really enjoy and where the quality of experience has no degradation.
Experiment With Darker Colors

We’ve been swooning over Amy Wilson’s basement for over a year. Just look at it! That small basement is cooler than any room in our houses. Plus it proves you don’t have to always play it safe with the colors in your basement. If you are a lover of dark and dramatic interiors then roll with it.
‘It is often a misconception that dark colors make a room feel smaller. In fact, this can work brilliantly in compact spaces, and can help a room to feel co-ordinated and cozy. Paint is a great way to define a space, so dont be afraid to introduce different colors to the walls. We love to mix it up with different tones to create interest but also to reflect our clients individual style and personality.’ explains Jen & Mar from Interior Fox .
