When Does Disney World Switch From Halloween To Christmas
If you have an early November Disney World trip planned you may be wondering when you will see the Disney Christmas decorations go up around the parks and resorts. We know this because we have been hearing from you and you want to know, when can I see Christmas at Disney World? This is something that does vary from year to year and is largely based on the filming of the Christmas Day parade.
The first thing up to consider is that you cant start Christmas celebrations until you take down your Halloween decorations. The Halloween decorations must stay up at the Magic Kingdom until the last Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party or in the case of this year, Boo Bash. The last After Hours Boo Bash is on Sunday, October 31, 2021. Its pretty magical, typically the next morning after the last party we find just about all the Halloween decor is gone.
Final Thoughts On Disney World Christmas Decorations Tips And Activities
Visiting Disney World during the Christmas season is a wonderful time to experience a variety of holiday activities. However, there are so many options it is impossible to do everything during one Disney World Christmas vacation.
Disney World Christmas decorations are stunning with over the top details that get even better upon close inspection. We love the varied Christmas decor perfectly suited for each resort and theme park.
The best time to enjoy Disney World Christmas activities and decorations is early December. Visiting after Thanksgiving, but before school Christmas breaks, provides the best mix of available activities plus lower crowds.

When Does Disney Take Down The Christmas Decorations
I absolutely love all things Christmas, including the decorations.
But, come the day after Christmas Im usually ready to get my house back in order so it isnt unusual to find me boxing stuff up on December 26th.
Disney isnt quite as fast at taking their decorations down, but they arent too far behind.
So, just when do they take the decorations down at Disney World?
Just like when the decorations go up, the removal is a process that spans days if not weeks and results in not everything being removed at once.
The general rule of thumb is that you can expect decorations across the parks and resorts to start coming down the first Monday after New Years.
Not every resort will start on that day but that is typically the day when the removal process for the entire Walt Disney World resort begins in earnest.
And, just like when the decorations go up, what order they come down can vary from year-to-year so dont use a previous years visit as a gauge when XYZ resort or parks decorations are still up.
Schedules can change!

Christmas Starting At The Magic Kingdom
This year we get the first Christmas festivities early! At the Magic Kingdom, the first castle lighting will be on Sunday, November 3rd, 2021. I would expect that the majority of the decorations should be up for this castle lighting as well. November 8th, 2021 marks the first Christmas After Hours party and we know all the Christmas decorations will be up in the Magic Kingdom by then.
Disneys Christmas Day Parade that airs on ABC plus other Disney Parks holiday specials to air on ABC and Disney Channel, will be taping at various locations throughout Disney World in early November. The official dates for 2021 have yet to be announced but we know it always falls early on in the month.
Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party is unfortunately not happening this year, instead, it was replaced with a Christmas After Hours Event.
Is Disneyland Still Decorated For Christmas In January
Disneyland Christmas this year runs from November 12th through January 9th giving guests plenty of time to enjoy the festivities. Does Disney Decorate For Christmas
Is Santas favorite color red? For those who havent had the chance to experience the magic of the holidays at Disney World, we are happy to report that yes, theres a sleighful of Christmas decorations at Disney! In fact, as far as were concerned, the holiday season is one of the absolute best times to visit Walt Disney World, and thats largely thanks to the festive decorations.
Disneys Christmas decorating schedule typically runs like clockwork from year to year, meaning youll have no problem scheduling a trip while the Disney park ornaments and hotel decorations are up. If youd like to experience Christmastime at Disney World, youre probably looking for the answers to the following questions:
When To Visit Disney At Christmas
The bad news mixed in with all this magic is that it gets painfully busy at Disney during portions of the holidays. Think five-hour waits for rides in pre-pandemic times and parks hitting max capacity.
Common sense will tell you when the parks are busiest during the holidays over school breaks and on weekends. If youre planning for the future, know that less busy times include the week before Thanksgiving and midweek during the first two weeks of December.

Holiday Season At Magic Kingdom
The main focus of celebration in Magic Kingdom Park will be the Disney Very Merriest After Hours but the park will be fully decorated for all guests to enjoy along with plenty of holiday treats and merchandise to enjoy.
The special holiday projections from last year will return on most nights on Cinderella Castle, alternating periodically with the castles transformation into a Beacon of Magic for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort.
Walt Disney World Hotels
Disney doesnt miss a detail, so the Walt Disney World hotels are always well-decorated for the Christmas season in addition to the theme parks.
Each hotel is managed differently, so its challenging to identify a specific date for the Christmas decoration to go up. Overall, the hotels are all decorated during the last two weeks of November.
Each resort is extensively decorated to reflect the theme and style of the particular hotel. You should check out what each Disney hotel lobby looks like for the winter holiday season if you have the time.
When Do Disney Hotels Decorate For Christmas
So now that we have covered all four theme parks, when do Disney Christmas light go up at the resorts?
Unfortunately there is no set order when it comes to the Disney putting Christmas decorations up at the hotels. We can say that all hotels receive their decorations within the last two weeks of November.
So if you plan on resort hopping to see all of the Disney World Christmas decorations make sure you visit in December! And the truth is we highly recommend visiting the hotels if you love Christmas. The imagination and creativity that goes into decorating the Disney world Resort hotels is amazing.
Best Time To Visit Walt Disney World Resort During The Holidays
Before we dive into the merriment, let’s start with perhaps the most important topic: The best time to visit during Christmas at Disney World. Many people plan their visits to Disney World at Christmas years in advance. The 2020 season was, ahem, special, to put it mildly, and while many people who had already planned trips had decided “not this year,” many are now thinking “let’s go to Disney World!” We highly recommend you start thinking about purchasing tickets and reserving Disney Park Pass reservations as soon as you’re able when it comes to the holiday season! While capacity is increasing, park pass reservations are here to stay, so you will need to pick which park you’ll visit each day of your trip ahead of time.
In general, we think any time you can visit Disney World is a good time to visit Disney World. We’re always excited when we’ve got our bags packed and are headed to the Most Magical Place on Earth. However, there are better times to visit than others during the holiday season. The busiest days of the year hoppen around Disney World holidays. In terms of crowds, here are the busiest days of the season:
- The week of Thanksgiving, including Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after Thanksgiving
- The week of Christmas, including Christmas Day
- The week of New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
I must admit my bias Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is my favorite Disney resort, hands down. This one-of-a-kind resort is home to beautiful African animals as well as a massive collection of African art and artifacts.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge were designed by the same architect. So they both have jaw-dropping lobbies. Jambo House is the main building of Animal Kingdom Lodge and has an incredible, warmly lit Christmas tree. You can sometimes find a gingerbread or chocolate village here, near the BOMA Flavors of Africa restaurant. There are two fire pits here too, one indoors and one outdoors. Either one is perfect for snuggling with your sweetheart.
While you’re here you can also walk over, or take a complimentary van, to Kidani Village. This is the second building at the resort, built a few years after Jambo House.
How Long Are The Christmas Decorations Up At Disneyland
In total a little over six weeks. So long as you get to Disneyland by the first week of January, youll be guaranteed to see those glorious Disneyland winter decorations. The last day of Christmas lights at Disneyland is not always exactly announced beforehand, so while the lights may stay up during the first week or two of January, if you can visit before the end of December, you wont need to worry about when does Disneyland remove Christmas decorations. The cool thing about early January is it is also one of the best times to visit Disneyland.

Disneys Contemporary Resort has some lovely decorations, including a gingerbread display inspired by the work of famous Disney artist Mary Blair. When Does Disney Start Decorating For Christmas At Animal Kingdom
Animal Kingdom park is another one of the most popular parks when it comes to Christmas decorations in Disney. Not only does this park have a very loyal fan base, but its also the newest Disney park to receive a Holiday upgrade.
Just like the Magic Kingdom, Disneys Animal Kingdom theme park has an official holiday start date of November 6th.
Yacht Club Resort Christmas Decorations
The nautical themed Christmas decorations at Disneys Yacht Club Resort are a fun twist. Boat ornaments, lots of blue hued lights, and traditional ornaments in blues and gold make the lobby Christmas tree unique to the Yacht Club theme. Just off to the side of the lobby is a Christmas village display with model trains running through the town.
Visiting Yacht and Beach Club to see the Christmas decorations is easy. These sister resorts are just a short walk from Epcots International Gateway and a Disney Skyliner stop.

When Is The Best Time To Visit Disney World For Christmas
A few days after Thanksgiving until about a week before Christmas is the best time to visit for the holidays. The Disney World Christmas crowds are low, but everything holiday is up and running.
In particular, the first week of December is a perfect mix of holiday experiences, comfortable crowds, and gorgeous weather which makes it our favorite time to visit.
Not able to visit between Thanksgiving and Christmas? Mid-November is a good Disney World Christmas vacation alternative if you dont mind missing Epcot Festival of the Holidays.

Where Can I Find Santa At Disney World Christmas Events
During the holiday events at Disney World, you can find Santa or Santa Goofy, his stand-in in the parks typically in the last week of November throughout the last week of December. Usually, you can catch Santa at the Hollywood Studios of Disney, at Epcot and Disney Springs. Last year, Santa and Santa Goofy were still greeting guests at Disney Springs and Disney Hollywood Studios.
Santa and Mrs. Claus at Epcot greet children typically during the International Festival of the Holidays at Epcot until the last day of December at the American Adventure Pavilion. You will also find Santa appearing often at the Very Merry Christmas Party of Mickey although he may make more frequent appearances than that.
When Does Disneyland Decorate For Christmas
The dates Disneyland is decorated for Christmas run from the end of November until the first week of January each year. Shortly after the Halloween decorations start to come down, youll see pops of the Disneyland California Christmas decorations showing up everywhere, from the lights to the building fronts, to the rides. It seems to almost happen magically overnight, but we know there are tons of hard-working Disneyland Cast Members all through the night to make this illusion come alive.
