TOMS RIVER – Floor & Decor, a specialty retailer of flooring, has signed a lease to take over the former Kmart store on Route 37.
The company, which has stores in Wayne, Paramus and Moorestown, currently is in the midst of seeking permits from Toms River.
Floor & Decor plans to open in early 2020, said Shane Wierks, a broker associate with Jeffery Realty, who represented the landlord in the lease transaction.
Based in Atlanta, Floor & Decor operates 113 stores in 28 states, as of Sept. 30.
Kmart closed its 104,478-square-foot store earlier this year as its parent company Sears Holding Corp. worked its way out of bankruptcy.
The company struggled under the weight of competition from other big retailers, including Amazon, Target and Walmart. Since then, TransformCo, the new parent company of Sears and Kmart, has announced the closure of more stores, including Kmart in Wall.
