We are all used to see grey, black and white marble decor in the kitchens, bathrooms and even living rooms but some of your may say thats hacky and not up-to-date. Avoid Exposure To High Temperature
Avoid installing your cultured marble where it can potentially be exposed to extremely high temperatures. Thermal shock can cause the cultured marble to break, and you will need to replace it altogether.
This is the reason why it needs to be placed in areas with mild temperatures, like a bathroom. This will ensure that the structure of your sink remains intact, and you won’t have to worry about heat-related damage.
What Is Crazing In Marble
When the gel coat fails, water will be able to penetrate the cultured marble surface. The excessive moisture will cause the surface to form crazing or spider cracks.
Crazing also happens when the marble is consistently exposed to high temperatures. Experts say to avoid temperatures exceeding 130F around it to avoid thermal expansion, which causes cultured marble to crack.
Crazing is also a result of the surface being exposed to harsh chemicals. Being in contact with acidic and caustic cleaners will cause abrasions to cultured marble, eventually creating cracks that can grow bigger over time.
Avoid direct contact with bleach, paint removers, acetone, ammonia, and vinegar. If you intend to dye your hair, try to stay away from any marble countertops since they could easily stain and cause damage.

Maintenance Of Bathroom Stone Marble Sinkdecorfloor
People generally like to use marble as the decorative countertop of the washstand, while the floor and wall of the bathroom are decorated with relatively high-grade natural stones, which adds a bit of elegant style to the bathroom.
However, because the bathroom has the specific function of bathing and there is more water vapor, the stone laid is very vulnerable to pollution if it is not maintained properly.
Therefore, once you choose a stone to decorate your bathroom, you must design a complete maintenance scheme in advance to ensure that the stone maintains a natural and beautiful appearance for a long time and prolong its service life.
The maintenance plan shall include cleaning and disinfection of bacteria and molds from the stone surface. At the same time, the cleaning agent shall not corrode the surface of stone and prevent the regeneration of mold.
At present, most cleaning disinfectants used at home contain acid, alkali and other chemicals that are irritant and have a great impact on the surface and color of natural stone.
These chemicals will have adverse effects on the mineral composition inside the stone. In particular, most cleaning agents must stay on the stone surface for at least five minutes to play a cleaning role, and during this time, the cleaning agents have begun to damage the stone.

How We Sealed Our Bathroom Marble
To protect our marble, we sealed every bit of it in our bathroom with . Impregnator sealers differs from topical sealers because they penetrate below the surface of the marble to protect it but are breathable and dont trap the interior moisture which is key with marble. My tile installers sealed my shower and tub wall tile after they finished it and I sealed our marble vanity countertop:
Its really simple to do you apply it evenly with a paint brush or clean white towel, let it sit for 3-5 minutes, and then remove any excess with another clean white towel before it dries.
My marble countertop really soaked up the sealer so I did a second application too. Then allow 1-3 days for it to sit undisturbed and totally cure. It will initially darken the appearance of your marble but gradually it will lighten back up as it cures.
Should you always seal marble? My tile installers have recommended it for all of the marble tile theyve installed in our home but there are horror stories out there of sealers reacting with cleaning chemicals or components within the surface of the stone so ask your own installers for their advice and ALWAYS test it on a sample spot before application. You can test it in the most non-obvious spot of the surface you want to seal or on leftover tile.

How We Clean Our Bathroom Marble Tile
Marble tile is definitely trickier than ceramic or porcelain tile to clean because typical cleaners CAN damage it. The things you DONT want to use are vinegar or anything else acidic, bleach, or most other generic tub and tile cleaners and glass cleaners. What you DO want is a cleaner that is mild, non-abrasive and pH balanced. It can be as simple as a mild clear dish soap and warm water. You can also use a spray cleaner such as thats pH balanced and contains no phosphates or ammonia :
But if you want to know what I think is the TRUE trick to cleaning marble, its to keep it from getting full of mold and mildew to begin with. We keep on the little shelf of our shower bench:
and use it to squeegee not only our shower glass but also the walls and the floor after the last person showers for the day. Then I follow it up with a quick wipe-down of everything with a microfiber cloth.
I know youre probably thinking that sounds like too much work but it literally only takes about 3 minutes and means you NEVER have to do any time-intensive deep cleaning. Our master bathroom was finished a year ago and it still doesnt have a spec of mold or mildew because our tile and grout arent kept wet, so those things cant grow truly, the squeegee is a marble showers best friend!

Once theyre all dirty, I throw them in the washer and dryer and theyre ready to be used all over again.
Is Cultured Marble Durable
Unlike solid marble, cultured marble is resistant to staining and mildew. This is because it has a glossy finish that shields it from sharp elements and small-scale scratching.
However, heavy abrasions and too much force will eventually cause the protective layer to break. This is why it is important to install cultured marble in places that aren’t frequented by rowdy children or pets.
Bathrooms are an ideal environment for cultured marble since they will not be exposed to extreme temperatures and are not frequented. Cultured marble also has water-resistant properties, making it hold up against moisture and mold-related damages.
Cultured marble has a usual lifespan of 20 years. If you want it to last longer, make sure you have it installed in a safe place.

Is Cultured Marble The Same As Solid Marble
In terms of structure, cultured marble should not be confused with solid marble.
Unlike the latter, cultured marble is made from a mix of stone particles, resin, crushed marble stone, and pigments that are molded and then lined with gel coatings before being put up on your countertops.
Cultured marble is also non-porous, making it non-abrasive. Just make sure not to abuse it too much since it can still be delicate like solid marble.
Solid marble is a natural earth stone, which makes it even more sensitive and expensive. Relative to marble, cultured marble is easier to clean. However, they both have similar basic maintenance requirements and give off an air of elegance wherever you put them.

Refilling With A Polyester Filler And Epoxy
Severe cracks can be difficult to restore. It is best to call a professional if the cracks have gotten too big from temperature shock or other external causes.
You can still try to fix it yourself, but getting a new sink might be your best option.
- Fill the cracks with polyester filler

What Causes Cultured Marble To Crack
The most common cause of their cracking is called thermal shock. This is common if your surface does not frequently experience being in contact with warm objects and suddenly got exposed to a pot of boiling water or curling iron, for example.
Your surfaces are bound to get damaged when it has little time between thermal expansion and contraction. Since cultured marble still has the sensitivity of solid marble, it can have a difficult time adjusting to extreme temperature changes. This will eventually cause it to crack immediately.

How To Repair Spider Cracks In Cultured Marble Sink

- Bleach solution and recoating
- Compound-buffing or sanding
- Refilling with a polyester filler and epoxy

Where We Have Marble Tile In Our Bathroom
We have marble in three different areas of our bathroom. Area #1 is the Walker Zanger mosaic tile on the wall behind our tub thats a mix of porcelain and marble tile:

Bleach Solution And Recoating
If the cracks have not yet fully opened, a conservative solution is to mix bleach with water. Make sure they are mixed well applying bleach directly to cultured marble can cause more damage.
After applying gel coating, you can repaint your cultured marble to make it look good as new. Make sure the paint color matches the marble surface.
