Floor & Decor To Take Over Former Kmart Space
A large retail space that has been unoccupied for about a year has a new tenant moving in soon.
Hard-surface flooring retailer Floor & Decor will soon open at the former location of Gainesvilles Kmart at 900 NW 76th Blvd. in the Newberry Square Shopping Center.
The retail space is about 84,000 square feet, the largest space on the site, according to real estate services firm Avison Young, which represents Regency Centers.
Kmart closed at the end of 2018, after parent company Sears Holdings filed for bankruptcy and closed 142 unprofitable stores nationwide.
The shopping center is anchored by a Publix and also contains a Dollar Tree, along with several other small businesses.
Newberry Square sits beside one of West Gainesvilles main throughways near the Oaks Mall and North Florida Regional Medical Center.

Ok, I tried to find the right superlative for this company and the only word that comes to mind is WOW! We had most of our house redone. I discussed my concerns with Johnny and he explained how they would make sure the floors were leveled and the installation was done correctly. We had some scheduling issues so it took a little longer than usual, but it was worth the wait. We loved the product and 80% of the installation went without a hitch. We found some issues with part of the floor and I was worried that there would be a lengthy discussion about fixing it. Boy was I wrong! We showed the install team where the problems were and there were no questions asked. They immediately redid the entire area perfectly. I must admit that my jaw dropped. Wilson did something that is almost unheard of and they took ownership of the problem, vowed to fix it, and did so without any debate. In my opinion, this sort of pride in workmanship is almost completely lacking today. The team that did our floor and the company should be proud of their work ethic and make sure that the customer is satisfied. We will be sure to spread the news and we know exactly who we will go to if we need additional work. Give them a chance, they are just… WOW!
