The Benefits Of Christmas Cruises
The main benefit of a Christmas cruise is to give everyone a break. As a nation weve become so worried about creating the perfect Christmas, that often this time of year has become the most stressful when it should be the most enjoyable. Everything is taken care of, all you need to do is pack your bags. No cooking, no worrying about if youve got everyones favourite tipple or snacks, theres even no need to worry about finding enough chairs for everyone. You can sit back and focus on enjoying quality time with your family.
Another perk of cruising at this time of year is the pursuit of your perfect weather. If you want a white Christmas or a sun-soaked getaway, you can have your preference depending on the itinerary you choose.
Then theres the entertainment onboard. From swimming pools and spas to all-singing and all-dancing shows, theres something for the whole family to enjoy. Depending on which cruise line you choose there are also more festive activities to enjoy including a visit from Santa and carol singing too.
Lastly, you dont have to worry about hauling your Christmas decorations out of the attic to decorate your house from top to toe and then pack them up again in the new year. Instead you can appreciate the colourful Christmas decorations that flow throughout your cruise ship, keeping your festive spirits high.

This year, especially, I understand why. But for me, in the months since the death of my beloved Philip, I have drawn great comfort from the warmth and affection of the many tributes to his life and work from around the country, the Commonwealth and the world. His sense of service, intellectual curiosity and capacity to squeeze fun out of any situation were all irrepressible.

Breaking It To The Family

As a former cruise ship crew member, I’ve spent my share of holidays at sea. Breaking it to the family is never easy. The best way to soften the blow, is to include them in the travel plans. Booking discounts are available for large parties, and gifts can be brought aboard and opened together on the special days. Better yet, make the cruise the holiday gift for the whole family! Giving family members this opportunity may open up a new tradition, avoiding the wintertime stress, by setting sail aboard a holiday adventure!

Have you ever wondered what Christmas would be like on a cruise ship?
No need to mess around with a giant turkey dinner
No Queens speech to sit through

For many of us Christmas on a cruise ship will always be a one day dream. People do go cruising at Christmas though and for those that do it really can be a magical time.
The Cruise.co.uk team have tried and tested Cunards iconic Queen Mary 2 during the festive season, and whilst it wasnt over Christmas , all the Christmas decorations were already up .
This meant we could share a whole host of photos with to see what a cruise ship looks like at Xmas
Did you know Santa is present aboard all Cunard ships in the Grand Lobby on Christmas Day, ready for gift giving and photographs. How does he land, and how is he aboard all the ships at once? That might be a Christmas miracle
A 12ft Christmas tree usually decorates the Grand Lobby from the beginning of December.
This was the Christmas tree in the main atrium and as you can see had a rather Wind in the Willows theme going on!
Did you know Around 3,000 feet of garland is used across the fleet to decorate the ships Thats a lot of garland!
This was the nativity scene just opposite the Golden Lion on deck 2

What Is A Christmas Cruise Really Like
If you’ve never tried cruising at Christmas, it can be difficult to put into words.
Picture yourself drinking a steaming cup of cocoa while you enjoy the sunrise from your cabin’s balcony and exchange gifts with your loved ones — no need to worry about making your bed, cooking a huge meal or cleaning up afterward.
Of course, the experience on Christmas cruises depends on the cruise line you choose, but there are some nearly industrywide themes in terms of decorations, activities and menus. Below, we recap many of them so you can decide if a festive sailing is right for you.
Ideas For Stateroom Door Decorating

There are many fun and creative options to decorate a cruise ship stateroom door. Some of the most popular choices are to acknowledge special occasions, such as birthdays, honeymoons, and anniversaries, especially if those occasions are being celebrated during the cruise.
Any holidays can be great opportunities to decorate, including Christmas cruises, Halloween, Thanksgiving, or other popular holiday sailings. Decorations might also celebrate graduations, retirement, promotions, or other significant milestones.
Amazon actually has a fair amount of stateroom door decoration items, take a look here.
Onboard gatherings, such as family reunions, group cruises, and bachelor or bachelorette parties might also use decorations to help different passengers feel connected no matter how large the ship is. Any group cruise, such as a craft-themed cruise, a book-lovers cruise, or similar group booking might also encourage door decorations so members of the group can more easily find one another.
Some passengers even simply enjoy decorations that celebrate the cruise itself, such as mouse ear decorations on a Disney cruise, anchor designs for a Royal Caribbean sailing, or tiaras and crowns on a Princess cruise.

You Can Leave Messages On Your Door
Adding a magnetic whiteboard to your cabin door can be a handy way to leave messages for others. If your group is spread across two or more nearby cabins, you could leave a note to let people know where youll be. Using your mobile phone at sea can be incredibly expensive, so having a way to pass messages can be very handy.
You could also encourage strangers to leave notes for you on your whiteboard, which can be fun. Just remember that if youre on a family ship, not to leave any notes or pictures that you wouldnt want little eyes to see.
Print A Design On Your Computer
The easiest way to make your own cruise door magnets is to print a design off onto paper using your computer and home printer. You can then laminate it using a self-stick laminating sheet and attach stick-on magnets or magnetic tape. This is such an easy thing to do and you can personalise your design however you like.
See an example below
As an alternative to stick-on magnets, you can also buy magnetic paper. This incredible stuff goes into your printer just like normal paper. You can print whatever you link onto it and it will strick straight to your metal cabin door with nothing else required!
