Of these combinations, its no surprise that King-sized beds offer a lot of real estate to play with. With so much space on your bed, you can load it with multiple pillow combinations. Things To Consider While Choosing Throw Pillow Size
Furniture piece sizes, styles are essential elements you should take into consideration while choosing a throw pillow.
- Match your pillow to your furniture sizes. Bigger pillows look overwhelming on smaller sofas & beds similarly, smaller pillows look underwhelming on bigger sofas & beds. Both cases mentioned above would look slouchy & awful so always go with pillows that are proportional to the size of the furniture
- Creating depth and interest in the view looks very appealing. A combination of different-sized decorative pillows would trick the brain to produce more depth in the space. Adding depth to your space makes it look more open and welcoming. For regular couches or Loveseats layer bigger pillows with smaller ones.
ie. For smaller couches pair an 18×18 with 16×16
Use symmetrical sizes and arrangements. Using lots of shapes & sizes can ruin the look to be messy & awful, so go with a decent no of combinations and layering to look polished & presentable.

This was partially due to the mess that was in my room and not finding the right decor at an affordable cost.
Task numero uno..the bed itself! Our king size bed takes up the majority of the room as you can guess. So, I needed a look that would be light and airy, but still speak to my love of color. Mix Up The Color Palette
Im super guilty of going too neutral at one point, every single item in our home was either white, grey, navy blue, or some sort of wood tone. I was afraid to commit, but that meant my home wasboring!
Ive taught myself to enjoy color more over the past few years, and I really enjoy the direction my preferences are going. I think I might even paint the wall behind the bed a deep, saturated color someday soon!
While neutral is definitely a good choice for things that are harder to change , throw pillows are cheap and easy to change out.
Its a great place to play with color a little more. I actually came home from Target with a plethora of colors, which made the layering process so much easier. Sometimes you have to see the different combos in the space to actually decide.

What Are The Common Pillows Used In A King Size Bed
Using different types of pillows makes the bed look more elegant. Especially if you use various colors for the Decorative Throw pillows or the front layer pillows, it will look more beautiful than the traditional combination. Here are some typical pillows with the dimension that are being used in a King Size Bed
- Standard Pillow 20 x 26

This is the most likely the most popular bed size. It is great for couples as well as singles. The queen bed provides a worthy amount of space for a hearty pillow arrangement. Queen size pillows are available but feel free to mix and match pillow sizes if you want less space between your standard sleeping pillows.
Option 1 Queen Bed with 2 standard pillows, 2 euro pillows, and 6 accent pillows
Begin this robust arrangement by propping two standard pillows up against your headboard. Center two euro pillows in front of them. Place your accent pillows at the forefront of the arrangement, either centered or offset slightly. Play with different textures and sizes to achieve the look and feel you want.
Queen Bed with 4 standard pillows, 2 euro pillows and 2 bolsters
Option 2 Queen Bed with 4 standard pillows, 2 accent pillows and 2 bolsters
This classic pillow arrangement is simple to achieve. Start with two standard pillows, then place two standard pillows directly in front. Next place two accent pillows and finish with 2 bolsters this formation takes just a few seconds to assemble and leaves your bed looking hotel fresh.

Option 1 Twin Bed with, 1 euro pillow 1 standard pillow and 1 bolster
Center the euro pillow and rest it against the headboard or wall. Place the standard pillow in front of it, followed by the bolster. Make sure to have them all in line with each other for maximum effect.
Twin Bed with 1 euro pillow, 3 accent pillows
Option 2 Twin Bed with 1 euro pillow, 3 accent pillows
For this arrangement, start by standing the euro pillow against the wall headboard. Place two accent pillows centered in front of it. Then end with a round accent pillow off set to one side. You can use a circular pillow or bolster, whichever you like.
Twin Bed with 1 bolster and 4 accent pillows
Option 3 Twin Bed with 1 bolster and 4 accent pillows
Start with placing the bolster pillow against the headboard. Then place two accent pillows off center. Then place the remaining two accent pillows in front of them. Try using accent pillows in different sizes. Place the accent pillows one in front of the other, with the smallest in the front.

Formula #: 4 Sleeping Pillows + 2 Different Shapes/sized Accent Pillows
If you like yourself a throw pillow then this formula is for you. We love using 2 or 3 different sized pillows in front of your base four. Its important to have one that is around 24 to really ground the mini collection especially on a king .
A good formula we use is one large, one medium and one small. Hand me the Pulitzer prize NOW. Also yes they can all be different colors, patterns, and textures. Certainly, pull in the colors of the headboard and your blankets/throws at the end. You dont want a really saturated or strong color as a quilt and then nothing to balance it out at the top of the bed. Again, pull from those colors. We wrote a whole post about mixing pillows HERE and rounded up many combos that we love.
HOT TIP: We love a round pillow. It really breaks up all the squares and rectangles that are innate in a bed. Also looking back at that bed , it could have used a quilt at the end and it does defy the formulas below you are about to see, but its ok and we didnt get arrested for our lack of layering. But if we could go back in time Id add a quilt or blanket to break up the line of the bed frame and give it more of an inviting and relaxed look. Here are some of our favorites:

Prints Solids And Textures
Should you choose prints or solids for your pillows? And what about adding in textured pillows? The answer depends on the overall look youre trying to achieve. An eclectic or bohemian style could include a mix of prints, solids, and textures. Look for pillows with fringe, weave, or fur for a trendy look. Or if youre sticking with a more classic style, opt for solid pillows in 1 or 2 colors.

King Bed Pillow Arrangement
For a king size bed, use either three standard size pillows or a pair of king size pillows. As for European squares, a king size bed requires three.
1. Prop up three European shams in the back, against the wall or headboard. Add a pair of king size pillows encased in shams, and finish with a trio of smaller pillows fitted with boudoir shams at the very front.
2. Prop three European shams along the back of the bed. Instead of king size pillows, use three queen or standard size pillows with shams for the second layer, then center two boudoir pillows on the gaps.
3. Begin with the same trio of European shams in the back. Add a pair of king size pillows in king size shams. Finish with 20-inch-by-20-inch decorative pillows centered in front of the two king size shams.
4. Once you arrange the foundation of European squares at the back, prop up three standard size sleeping pillows layered with another three standard size pillows outfitted with shams. This is a simple arrangement, but a style with some depth.

How To Arrange Pillows On King Bed
Compared to a queen size, and certainly compared to a twin- or full-size bed a King size bed is WIDE. 76 Inches wide to be precise. This is wonderful for sleeping, especially for couples, as a King mattress gives each half as much space to themselves as they would have on a twin size bed. It can, however, lead to some bedding challenges, including answering the question how to arrange pillows on a King size bed.
