Layer And Style Ribbons

How To Decorate A Mini Christmas Tree With Lights

Another expert tip is to layer your Christmas tree with decorative ribbons, which will elevate your tree’s aesthetic. You may use one type of ribbon or pair ribbons of contrasting textures and different widths to create more impact.

Brad Schmidt, contributing designer for Balsam Hill, recommends using ribbons with wired edges, as these are easier to sculpt into loops or rolls, and they hold shape better than non-wired ribbons. Follow these simple techniques for arranging ribbons on your tree.

Drape Ribbons Tinsel Or Garlands

Tinsel may not be the most stylish of Christmas decorations but these extra additions that drape over the branches do add shapes and extra interest to your tree. In fact, if you are after a really minimalist look switching your baubles for a bare tree just covered in ribbon or a neutral pom garland can be really effective.

Treat these additions as you did the lights, start at the bottom and wind them around towards the top, then go back in and arrange them so they drape nicely and hang naturally in the branches.

Stick To Just The Trunk For An Easy Festive Look

Can’t bring yourself to do all that wrapping on every single branch? We hear you, it’s not for everyone. But you can still bring a little Christmas magic to your outdoor tree by wrapping just the trunk. You’ll still get that desirable glowing look minus the hassle of the extra-arduous wrapping. Accessorize with lanterns for even more interest on the ground.

What Are The Steps For Putting Lights On The Tree

First, you need to choose the tree. Next, you need to choose the lights you want to place. This can be either digital or physical. Then, you need to select the tree type or type of tree. You can also change the color of the lights if you want. Lastly, you need to enjoy the moment while watching our easy procedure for putting lights on trees.

    Start With The Lights

Unless you are using a pre-lit tree, the next step is to string on the lights. When it comes to fairy lights, more is more, you want the tree to twinkle from all angles and you want enough lights to really get into the depth of the tree too. ‘We’d recommend 170 lights per meter of the tree.’ advises Chrissie Rucker, founder of The White Company. ‘Start from the bottom, winding them up and around.’

Once you’ve tackled the inevitable untangling, switch your lights on before you start putting them on the tree, this will make it much easier to see gaps. Work your way across the tree, going up one branch each time you’ve made a full circle. Once you have this even spread you can start playing around take some lights further back towards the trunk, drape the string over smaller branches and fill in any obvious gaps.

You can layer fairy lights too. If you like colored lights start with a base of white lights that sit closer to the trunk and them wrap the colored lights around keeping them towards the edges of the branches. And different sizes of lights can give a lovely look too, mixing smaller fairy lights with slightly larger globe lights creates a really twinkly tree that has an almost lit from within look.

First youll need to set your tree in a secure stand well later cover this with a tree skirt. If youre using a solid, wicker tree skirt, make sure to add it on at this stage, however.

Even if you have one of the best artificial Christmas trees, fluffing the branches is still really important, as it will make your tree look more natural and full, and also much more beautiful!

You can also do this to a certain extent with real Christmas trees, but be gentle so the needles dont drop. Another tip wear gloves because the branches can be extremely prickly and you could risk a splinter.

    Start With The Lights First

While pre-lit Christmas trees are popular and will save you time , you’ll need Christmas tree lights if you have a plain tree . As a general rule of thumb, the lighting experts at Lights4Fun advise 100 bulbs or 5 metres of lights per 2ft of Christmas tree. So for a 6ft tree, you’d need 300 bulbs or 15 metres of lights.

The first, most important thing you need to do when decorating your Christmas tree, is to always add the lights first it’s more difficult to do this after you’ve added decorations like baubles and garlands.

Balsam Hill advise that you use the plug as the starting point, wrapping the lights around your Christmas tree’s trunk, working your way up from the centre of the base of your tree. Continue wrapping the lights evenly around the branches nearest to the trunk, and then weave it upwards from the middle of the crown.

‘When you reach the crown, weave your way back down, arranging the lights further out on the branches,’ Balsam Hill advise. ‘Keep weaving the lights until you reach the tips of the branches.’

And remember, when weaving, the bulb should be positioned under a branch and the next bulb over a branch, and so forth.

Start hanging your baubles, using larger ones at the base and medium sized baubles in the middle and top of the tree. Limit yourself to three or four different colours, using a variety of matt, shiny and glitter decorations. This will help give your tree depth and more interest.

A lack of structure and space with baubles is one of the major problems found when decorating trees. A lot of houses will hang ornaments on their Christmas tree haphazardly, causing it to look populated and a little bit claustrophobic, say the experts at Christmas Tree World. You can easily avoid that by having a plan of what you want your Christmas tree to look like. You should spread out your decorations evenly, whilst also considering symmetry.

When Was The Artificial Christmas Tree Invented

Artificial Christmas trees were developed in the United States in the 1930s. They were made of brush bristles. The 1950s and 1960s saw the mass production of aluminum and plastic trees. Artificial trees gained significant popularity, particularly in countries where fresh trees were hard to procure.

Christmas tree, an evergreentree, often a pine or a fir, decorated with lights and ornaments as a part of Christmas festivities. Christmas trees can be fresh-cut, potted, or artificial and are used as both indoor and outdoor decorations. While the trees are traditionally associated with Christian symbolism, their modern use is largely secular. Many families place presents around an indoor Christmas tree to be opened on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

The use of evergreen trees, wreaths, and garlands to symbolize eternal life was a custom of the ancient Egyptians, Chinese, and Hebrews. Tree worship was common among the pagan Europeans and survived their conversion to Christianity in the Scandinavian customs of decorating the house and barn with evergreens at the New Year to scare away the Devil and of setting up a tree for the birds during Christmastime. It survived further in the custom, also observed in Germany, of placing a Yule tree at an entrance or inside the house during the midwinter holidays.
