We’re Open: Sugar Artist Makes Coronavirus Beshear Inspired Treats

LEXINGTON, Ky. They say during times of stress or trouble to look on the bright side of things, but what about the sweet side? A Kentucky sugar artist is trying to put a creative spin on cakes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brandi Romines loves to get creative with cakes, but she wanted to stand out even more from other bakers during this time.

I think the toilet paper cakes are cute, but theyve been done a hundred times. You can walk into Kroger and buy one, she said.

So, she made a coronavirus cake for a customer when she asked for something different for her husbands birthday.

I said, have you thought about making a cake that looks like the virus? And she was like, what? So, when I sent her the picture of it under the microscope, I said, I think that would be really cool, said Romines.

She took it even one step further with her next pandemic pastry cake pops, or face pops as she calls them, of Governor Andy Beshear and ASL translator Virginia Moore.

I would look at him and think, that would be so cute as a cake pop, said Romines. I think I could do it. Im just going to try it.

Romines says the cake pops are at her home and has no plans to gift them during the pandemic for health and safety reasons.

Her coronavirus creations have gotten attention on her social media accounts. Shes already working on her next creation.

Its related to our daily press conferences and a way for families to participate with a sweet treat, said Romines.

Canvas Painting For Teens/tweens/adults

Welcome to the Cut & Paste Online Canvas Class for Tweens/Teens/Adults

Heres how it will work:

We have designed 6 canvases that are a little more difficult to paint than our Kids Online Canvas Class and are more appropriate for kids ages 10 & up, teens and adults.

Each canvas design you choose is $12-15. You should purchase 1 brush set for each person who will be painting. These are $10 and include 3 brushes. You will use these brushes for each canvas you paint. This ensures that you have the correct type of brushes to follow along as we paint in the video. If you purchased brushes for our Kids Canvas Class, you may use those as they are the same brushes.

Each canvas will be pre-traced with the design. You will receive the canvas, all of your paint colors, a table covering and a bowl for water. If youd like different colors than those pictured here, add colors in the comments section.

You will register here, pay here, and we will bag everything up for you. You will receive a text when your canvases are ready to be picked up.

3 hours of hand-on instruction, limit 6 students

In this class, I take my grandmother’s secret yeast dough recipe and break it down into steps that are simple enough for the beginner. We then learn time saving tips, like how to make our signature cinnamon rolls, dinner rolls, coffee cake and cheese crowns from the one simple recipe. We also talk about how to make the timing fit into your schedule and other ways to get creative with the dough! We’ll get our hands in the dough, so you can take home a batch to play with the next day and there will also be lots to sample and some of the delicious goodies we bake to take home. This is a great introduction on how to make yeasted breads and share your love of baking with the world!

Tween/teen Galaxy Cake Decorating Class

Miss Delaney Cakes is back for a special Tween/Teen Night featuring her Galaxy Cake design. Kids will learn to stack and decorate a cake using real buttercream to create an out-of-this-world cake. This is a drop-off event, so parents do not need to stay.

We learn about mixing, kneading and shaping the bagels, as well as ketteling and baking the bagels. We talk about recipe development and how to create lots of different varieties of bagels from one base recipe. 3 hours of hands-on instruction, limit 6 students

Learn the art of Sourdough by making your own bread. Although taking care of a sourdough starter is a bit like taking care of a young child, I break this skill into manageable steps and walk you through all the important points of how to feed your starter, how to mix and make sourdough bread, then how to score and bake the bread. You will go home with your own sourdough starter, the loaf of bread that you baked and two loaves that you will bake the following day, as well as detailed instructions on everything we learned in class.
